Learn More About Windshield Replacement

How do I know if my windshield should be repaired or replaced?

There are multiple factors that need to be taken into account when determining whether to repair or replace a windshield. Your safety is always priority number one, so the first thing we consider when assessing the damage on your windshield is the integrity of the glass and your ability to drive the vehicle safely. Then we look at the location, size, and depth of the chip or crack.

Give us a call or text us a picture and one of our Master Technicians can take a look!

What does 'recalibration' mean?

Most modern cars now have Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that utilize cameras and sensors to warn drivers of potential dangers while driving. After a windshield is replaced, the cameras and sensors must be recalibrated and tested to ensure the safety features are accurate and within the guidelines of the original manufacturer.
Learn More About Recalibration

Do I have to have recalibration done?

Insurance companies require recalibration to be done on vehicles with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). If you get a windshield replacement and the recalibration was not completed, you may be liable in the case of an accident. Recalibration of ADAS systems after a windshield replacement is incredibly important to the safety of the vehicle and everyone in it.

What is ADAS?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are cutting-edge technologies designed to help drivers stay safe on the road. These systems use sensors, cameras, and radars to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings and assist with tasks like steering, braking, and maintaining a safe distance from other cars.

Key ADAS features include:

Lane Departure Warning: Alerts you if you drift out of your lane.
Automatic Emergency Braking: Stops the car if a collision is imminent.
Adaptive Cruise Control: Adjusts speed to keep a safe distance from the car ahead.
Blind Spot Detection: Warns you about vehicles in your blind spot.
Parking Assistance: Helps with parking by using cameras and sensors.

These systems work together to improve road safety by detecting potential hazards and assisting with driving tasks.

What is the best type of windshield to get?

While there are two different types of glass that can be installed during a replacement, OEM or OEE (see definitions below), the Department of Transportation does not allow faulty glass to be installed. Any safety glass that is installed in your vehicle has been approved by the Department of Transportation and the original manufacturer's specifications.

What is OEM glass?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. OEM glass is the original glass that was placed into your vehicle by the manufacturer on the line when it was built. This glass will have the car manufacturer's logo on it; for example, Lexus, Ford, or Honda.

What is OEE glass?

OEE is Original Equipment Equivalent, it has the exact same properties as an OEM windshield. The only difference is there is no logo stamped on the glass. The same manufacturers that produce OEM also produce OEE.

How do I know if I have OEM glass?

If you have OEM glass you will see a stamp (also known as a bug) with the car company's logo in the lower, corners of your windshield.

Will my insurance pay for this?

It depends on what type of car insurance you have and what state you live in. If you have comprehensive insurance, the Kentucky Windshield Replacement Law states that you are entitled to repair or replacement without having to pay a deductible. However in states like Indiana, no such law exists. It's best to check with your local insurance agent to determine what type of insurance coverage you have and what your out of pocket cost will be.

Will my insurance pay for OEM glass?

All insurance companies are different, but typically if your car is 2 years old or newer they will approve OEM glass. If your car is 2 years old or older, they may make you pay the difference between OEM and OEE glass. We will order and install whichever type of glass you’d like us to.

Will my insurance go up if I file a claim?

Since all insurance companies operate differently, with their own policies, we can’t answer that question. You’ll have to reach out to your insurance company directly. But do keep in mind that an auto glass claim is a no fault claim!

Can I choose my own auto glass repair shop?

Yes! We know how important your vehicle is to you. We want you to have the best, which is why we're here!
